CO2 Emissions
Working to reduce our environmental impact and that of our customers
From 2011, if you are a listed company, and for all companies from 2013, the European regulations will make it compulsory to publish the CO2 emissions generated by the manufacture and transport of your products.
As part of its pioneering commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Norbert Dentressangle goes beyond the statutory requirements, by looking ahead and implementing a wide variety of practical measures to limit these emissions. This enables us to support our customers in their drive to meet the current environmental standards.
In fact, it is our responsibility to reduce the environmental impact of our activities. In order to achieve this, we focus on two areas. We work with our customers to optimise their transport plans and loading of the associated vehicles. At the same time, we develop R&D projects in partnership with truck manufacturers, which focus on alternative technologies to the diesel engine.
Our initiatives:
1. Reducing the gross CO2 emissions produced by our vehicles
- Improving aerodynamics (roof/lateral deflectors, standard equipment in all vehicles: average fuel efficiency gain of 1.5 l/100 km; “tear drop” style aerodynamic bodywork, tested in the UK: estimated fuel efficiency gain of 5%)
- Optimising transmission systems (automatic gearboxes, standard equipment in all vehicles: average fuel efficiency gain of 1.5 l/100 km)
- Reducing rolling resistance (low-energy tyres (Michelin Energy), standard equipment in all vehicles: average fuel efficiency gain of 1.5 l/100 km)
- Fuel economy device (Stop-Start technology available as standard in all trailers purchased from major manufacturers, with an estimated fuel saving of 3% - 5%)
2. Reducing CO2 emissions in proportion to the quantity of goods transported
- Making full use of the useful capacity of our vehicles (ambient and temperature controlled double-deck trailers)
3. Testing alternative technologies to the diesel engine (hybrid technology, tested on four prototype trailers in 2011: 20% fuel saving, 30% less pollutant emissions, reduced noise)
Proof of our commitment
- Volume of CO2 emissions per tonne/km: 58 g/T/km CO2 emissions in 2010.
- Fuel consumption reduced by 8 - 10% due to eco-driving
