Norbert Dentressangle secures further three year deal with Daikin

Daikin UK and Daikin Europe NV have both signed a further three year UK warehousing and distribution contract with Norbert Dentressangle.

Based in Ostend, Belgium, Daikin Europe NV is the European sales and manufacturing headquarters of Daikin Industries Ltd, a global leader in the manufacture and supply of commercial and industrial air conditioning and heating products.

Originally appointed by Daikin UK in 2005, Norbert Dentressangle receives containerised product from Daikin’s manufacturing facilities in Belgium, Czech Republic and the Far East and is responsible for the unloading and palletisation, storage, picking and distribution of products to customers throughout the UK and Ireland, mainly on a Day 1 for Day 2 basis. The company is also responsible for the line-haulage operation from the Port of Felixstowe.

In some cases, due to the large and heavy nature of the product, the distribution operation requires specialist handling and Norbert Dentressangle provides a range of value-added services that have been developed specifically with the Daikin UK customers in mind, including pre-delivery customer calls, two-man deliveries, the provision and operation of heavy lifting equipment and removal and disposal of packaging.

Norbert Dentressangle is also responsible for managing the delivery of aftermarket parts to both engineers and customers, primarily via parcel carrier. Further value-added activities include the inspection and assessment of returns and the refurbishment of products.

Both the warehousing and transport operations are served by Norbert Dentressangle’s shared Specialist Services network, providing Daikin with a highly flexible and cost-effective nationwide distribution operation.

To accommodate growth in Daikin’s business, under the new contract, Norbert Dentressangle will relocate the operation into 80,000 sq ft of space in its new shared-user facility in Aylesford, Kent. The company is also further upgrading its warehouse management system to minimise e-mail and telephone communication.
