RFID
Faultless customer service
To provide its customers with faultless traceability appropriate to their needs, the Norbert Dentressangle Group has been investing in RFID for several years: a leading ID technology, based on the use of radio waves.
RFID applications
Bulk product management
An RFID tag is placed at ground level identifying the bay number.
The forklift truck, equipped with a RFID reader, reads the tag for confirmation that it can lift the product out of the bay.
The tag is integrated into the handling support (pallet, container...):
The packed goods on the support are recorded on the tag.
Stock entry and exit is recorded by reading the tag.
The chip is inserted into the product itself by the manufacturer. Tests in progress on clothing and hazardous products:
Products are traceable at every stage in the supply chain, including within the store.
Advantages
The system makes it possible to increase the level of customer service by reducing location errors, preparation errors and the breakage rate.
At the same time, the RFID increases competitiveness by reducing handling costs. It also cuts administrative handling costs by reducing the frequency of inventories and the handling of disputes.
Norbert Dentressangle links RFID technology with the Combined forklift truck movement process.

The RFID, what it changes
For the storage :
The forklift truck driver handles the goods on the loading bay.
He flashes the bar-code.
He dispatches the goods to the bays, the goods are validated by an RFID key located in the floor.
Results :
Stock made 100 % reliable.
Improvement in the work of forklift truck drivers.
Reduction in break bulks.
Advantages :
Lower handling costs.
Reduction in continuous inventories.
Reduced administrative costs.
For the order preparation :
The forklift truck driver receives confirmation of his picking from the WMS only if he is in the right bay which contains the expected " installation key" (in the RFID chip), without which his task is not confirmed.
